I've started to explore my local area lately, nothing as exciting as abandoned factories, just run down urban places. I usually spot these as I'm driving about and make a note to explore them later, sometimes I even get round to it! These are from the latest little explore yesterday:
I think I'm just attracted to that same empty, disused feel of places like this, signs of urban neglect have always been interesting to me.

Recent visits
I've been a bit terrible about posting on here regularly, hence why I've posted a lot over the past few days!
Anyway, I thought some people might be interested in the places I've explored over the past couple of weeks.
One place was an old disused quarry up near Hertford. This was pretty cool and had loads of old machinery still about, there's even the entrance to the old excavation tunnel, the door was open, but I wasn't really prepared for a full on explore of
somewhere like that! Anyway, here are some photos from that little scouting adventure:
Another place I visited recently was Athlone House located at the northern end of Hampstead Heath. When I say visited I actually mean gazed longingly through the bars! This place looks to be for the more determined urban explorer, big high fence, cameras etc. However, we did come across what looked like a squatters site right near the house, which we explored, very gingerly! Luckily no-one was home:
In other exciting news, I finally got my new Nikon D7000 today! Finally I can do my own filming without having to loan out a Canon 5DMKII from university. I'm hoping I'll become a lot more prolific video-wise in the next coming weeks!

Glass heads and Projections
Today I had a little experiment.
Through the wonderous ebay, I managed to acquire myself a glass mannequin head and I immediately had the idea of either filling it with stuff (possibly things) or trying to project some videos through it. I had a go at some projecting today, not expecting much to be honest, but luckily I was pleasantly surprised:
I love the way light gets fragmented off into different directions, but the most interesting was when something either moved through the frame in one of the videos or if I'd panned the camera while filming. I'm definitely going to investigate this further.

Urban Exploring
So I definitely feel I have more of a direction now. Urban exploring is something I've been interested in for a long time, but I've only really just started to become quite prolific with it. These places are fascinating for the surfaces and textures within, the fading colours, the atmosphere and of course the history.
I've made a short video trying to get some of this across.
